Still Life

The winds that rip across the abandoned ranches of Point Reyes had momentarily taken a break. The fluffy white clouds in the pale blue sky seemed to pause and hover over the sunbaked but cool landscape. Offshore, the gusts still whipped the wavetops to a froth, cascading white water across the sea, far from the shore breaks at the beach. The lone tree and house sat in the stillness… frozen partners in a dance that would go on until one of them wasn’t there anymore.

The click of the shutter beat the whistle of the first returning gust of wind by seconds.
